About The Position

The Pottery Barn Vice President of Product Development & Design [Furniture] will develop the creative vision and aesthetic direction for the brand, cohesively connecting the seasons and layering the right product mix of core and fashion to attract the customer to the brand. The VP of Product Development will also direct the design teams to interpret concepts into product, ensuring that the teams have a thorough understand of the brand direction, process and desired outcomes. This role is also responsible for identifying new businesses and implementing staffing plans to support the current and expanding business opportunities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years leading a product design department; Furniture experience required
  • Minimum of 4 year college degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years management experience.
  • Aesthetic Visionary, People Development & Management, Presentation Skills, Business Orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the short and long-term creative vision for the categories of Furniture.
  • Communicate the vision, inspire team, and support in the design of products that compels the customer to buy.
  • Create and present lifestyle concepts for the brand each season, gathering market data on key trends considering such elements as fabrication, materials, and designs.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings which inspire team to share creative product ideas, while driving decisions that translate into product
  • Present concepts to President and merchandising functions. Collaborate and seek feedback on ideas and products.
  • Leverage all sources of fashion and architectural trends, including overseas trips, flea markets, boutiques, magazines and trade shows to observe colors, styles and shapes to apply to product.
  • Regularly shop competitors to keep abreast of trends.
  • Lead and facilitate divisional meetings across functions and distribution channels.
  • Lead and participate in key company strategic initiatives and steering committees.
  • Present seasonal product information (inspirations and facts) to field
  • Determine workload for staff; recommend effective processes and procedures to improve workflow and results.
  • Travel Europe/Asia to identify emerging themes and new inspirations.
