About The Position

The Vice President, Operations is a strategic and hands-on executive leader responsible for overseeing and advancing the company’s internal print production and fulfillment operation as an enterprise capability. This role provides end-to-end leadership for print shop operations, fulfillment, process optimization, systems modernization, quality, service delivery, financial performance, and team leadership. The VP will lead the evolution of the in-house print operation from a transactional support function into a scalable, high-performing business operation that delivers exceptional service, operational efficiency, and measurable value to internal stakeholders. This executive will also identify and drive opportunities to expand lines of business, improve capacity planning, strengthen governance, and enhance the overall client and employee experience. The ideal candidate combines executive-level operational leadership with deep knowledge of print production, fulfillment workflows, continuous improvement, and cross-functional partnership. This leader must be able to operate strategically while maintaining strong visibility into day-to-day production realities, service expectations, and operational risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, Production Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive operations leadership experience in print production, print operations, fulfillment, manufacturing, or a related production environment.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams and operational functions at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated success leading operational strategy, process improvement, workflow standardization, and business performance optimization.
  • Strong working knowledge of print production workflows, preferably digital print, and fulfillment operations.
  • Experience building metrics-driven operations and using data to improve service, quality, speed, and cost.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, tight deadlines, fluctuating demand, and operational complexity with sound judgment and executive presence.
  • Strong risk identification and mitigation skills, with the ability to proactively address operational issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading a corporate, enterprise, or mid-to-large-scale commercial print operation.
  • Experience expanding operational capabilities or service lines within an internal business function or shared services environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with job ticketing systems, work order platforms, inventory management tools, and production reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight of the company’s end-to-end internal print production and fulfillment operation, including job intake, planning, scheduling, production, finishing, packaging, distribution, and service delivery.
  • Lead the strategic direction of print operations to ensure alignment with enterprise priorities, service expectations, growth goals, and cost-efficiency objectives.
  • Ensure high standards of production quality, brand consistency, turnaround times, and service-level performance across all print and fulfillment activities.
  • Oversee equipment strategy, utilization, maintenance planning, vendor service partnerships, and operational readiness to support reliable production and scalability.
  • Maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient production environment, including adherence to equipment safety, chemical handling, ergonomic standards, and workplace practices.
  • Develop and execute a forward-looking operational strategy that strengthens the print shop’s role as a value-driving internal business function.
  • Identify opportunities to expand service offerings, capabilities, and lines of business in support of enterprise needs and changing client demand.
  • Evaluate opportunities for operational growth through new services, workflow enhancements, technology enablement, and improved fulfillment solutions.
  • Build scalable infrastructure, processes, and service models that enable growth while maintaining quality, cost discipline, and operational control.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on opportunities to improve internal service delivery, operational leverage, and long-term business value.
  • Lead enterprise-level continuous improvement efforts focused on cycle time reduction, waste elimination, quality improvement, cost optimization, and throughput enhancement.
  • Identify, analyze, and remove operational bottlenecks across print production, fulfillment, and related workflows.
  • Standardize and modernize work practices, documentation, intake processes, prioritization methods, and job tracking systems to improve consistency and scalability.
  • Implement operational disciplines and performance routines that improve execution, accountability, and service reliability.
  • Leverage Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or similar methodologies to drive sustainable process improvement and operational excellence.
  • Establish and oversee operational metrics, dashboards, and reporting practices to drive data-informed decisions and executive visibility.
  • Monitor key performance indicators such as throughput, on-time delivery, utilization, turnaround time, error rates, reprint rates, service levels, and cost efficiency.
  • Use data insights to forecast demand, inform staffing and capacity planning, prioritize investments, and guide business decisions.
  • Ensure strong operational governance, including service standards, workflow controls, escalation protocols, and risk management practices.
  • Communicate operational performance, trends, risks, and recommendations clearly to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team across print production and fulfillment functions.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, service excellence, continuous improvement, and operational discipline.
  • Provide leadership for talent planning, hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and succession readiness.
  • Strengthen team capability through training, cross-training, role clarity, and development of bench strength to support resilience and scalability.
  • Ensure staffing structures, work allocation, and scheduling models effectively support business demand and operational priorities.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders including branch operations, marketing, procurement, and other business functions to align service priorities and operational expectations.
  • Improve cross-department workflows by clarifying intake requirements, service-level agreements, proofing standards, production timelines, and escalation paths.
  • Communicate status updates, operational risks, capacity constraints, and mitigation options in a proactive and solutions-oriented manner.
  • Drive a positive internal client experience through responsive service, clear communication, and consistent delivery performance.
  • Collaborate across leadership teams to align process changes, priorities, and resource planning with broader business objectives.
  • Oversee operational budgeting, forecasting, purchasing, and cost management for print production and fulfillment activities.
  • Ensure effective management of inventory including paper, toner, ink, finishing supplies, packaging materials, and shipping resources.
  • Drive margin efficiency and cost discipline by reducing waste, improving resource utilization, and optimizing vendor relationships.
  • Manage external print and fulfillment vendors, as needed, to ensure quality, service reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Evaluate operational investments, technology enhancements, and vendor partnerships to support long-term capability and performance.
