About The Position

As a key member of the Senior Management team, the VP of Operations will report to the Chief Operations Officer and assume a tactical and strategic role in the overall operations management of the credit union. The VP of Operations will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, and managing the operations of the credit union. The VP of Operations will collaborate with the COO and Management team in setting and driving organizational vision, operational strategy, and managing the overall administration of the credit union operations.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the credit union industry and credit union operations, including broad knowledge of credit union products and services, policies and procedures and financial services platform system.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with increasing levels of managerial responsibility in a financial institution.
  • Demonstrative background in all facets of Operations.
  • Demonstrative success in planning, organizing, leading and oversight of people and activities. Leading multiple teams and/or managers.
  • Experience collaborating across teams/departments.
  • Track record of applying critical thinking and emotional intelligence skills i a wide variety of situations.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to successfully manage multiple projects, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
  • Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
  • Strategic thinking skills and ability to problem solve quickly.
  • In-depth knowledge of leading operations, which includes knowledge of lending and retail practices.
  • Strong operational systems experience, preferably Symitar, and computer literacy skills.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, in a professional manner when dealing with employees, members, vendors and company contacts.

  • Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, formulate, recommend and participate in key decisions pertaining to strategic and tactical initiatives, operating model and operational execution of the credit union.
  • Develop actionable business strategies to ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objections in tandem with the COO.
  • Assist with monitoring performance of all product producing business units and recommend corrective measures as needed, prepare detailed reports, both current and forecasting.
  • Maintain necessary policies and procedures manuals, update accordingly, develop organization wide communication plan to inform staff regarding changes.
  • Maintain knowledge of various operational programs used by the credit union.
  • Be familiar with data processing systems; review/approve data, assist in hardware and software upgrades.
  • Keep the COO apprised of credit union conditions, operations, and influencing factors.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with the management team so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions.
  • Provide management with advice on the operational implications of business activities.
  • Provide recommendations to strategically and tactically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Ensure that effective controls are in place and ensure compliance with all related regulations, federal and state laws and compliance with Bank Secrecy Act and related regulations.
  • Works with the management team to ensure departmental compliance. May serve as part of the Compliance team.
  • Provide operational oversight to the Deposit Operations and Member Engagement Center Service teams.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
