About The Position

The Vice President of Tax and Treasury will be a key member of the finance leadership team, responsible for developing and executing Cresco Labs’ comprehensive tax strategy and treasury management framework. This leader will oversee all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and reporting, while managing liquidity, capital allocation, and banking relationships to ensure Cresco maintains a strong and flexible financial position. This is a highly visible role requiring strong technical expertise, sound business judgment, and the ability to thrive in an environment where regulation, innovation, and growth intersect.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Advanced degree in CPA, JD, or Master’s in Taxation strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax and treasury management, including leadership roles in a public company or highly regulated industry.
  • Deep technical expertise in U.S. federal and state taxation, including multi-entity and multi-jurisdictional structures; experience with IRC 280E preferred.
  • Proven track record of managing liquidity, cash flow forecasting, and capital structure optimization in a dynamic operating environment.
  • Experience navigating complex compliance frameworks, including SOX and public company reporting standards.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen, analytical rigor, and the ability to translate technical insights into actionable business decisions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills; proven ability to influence across functions and levels.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Cresco Labs’ overall tax strategy, ensuring compliance with complex federal, state, and local tax requirements, including the unique constraints of IRC Section 280E applicable to the cannabis industry.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and timely filing of all tax returns, including income, sales/use, excise, and property taxes.
  • Provide executive-level guidance on the tax implications of strategic decisions, including mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, and intercompany transactions.
  • Partner with external advisors and internal stakeholders to structure the organization for long-term tax efficiency and compliance.
  • Lead tax audits and examinations, maintaining strong relationships with tax authorities and advisors to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Stay ahead of evolving cannabis taxation and regulatory frameworks, proactively identifying opportunities and risks.
  • Oversee the company’s business insurance strategy, including risk assessment, policy selection, renewal, and claims management. Regularly review insurance policies to optimize coverage, manage costs, and support business continuity planning.
  • Oversee all treasury operations, including cash management, forecasting, debt, and investments.
  • Develop and maintain robust short- and long-term cash flow forecasting models to optimize liquidity and support business growth.
  • Manage relationships with banking partners, lenders, and capital markets participants, balancing compliance with financial agility in the restricted banking landscape for cannabis companies.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance working capital efficiency, optimize capital structure, and support strategic financing needs.
  • Ensure strong internal controls, compliance with SOX, and protection of company assets.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing tax and treasury team with a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with the CFO, Controller, FP&A, and Legal teams to align financial strategy with business objectives.
  • Present complex tax and treasury matters clearly to executive management, the Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on all matters related to tax policy, cash flow, and capital strategy.
