About The Position

We are looking for a Vice President of Operations to lead and scale field operations within a growing heavy civil construction organization. This role is responsible for driving execution, profitability, and consistency across underground utilities, site development, and public infrastructure projects. The position oversees project managers, superintendents, and field teams while maintaining full accountability for performance, production, and financial outcomes. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who understands field operations and can translate that into measurable results.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in heavy civil construction operations with a focus on underground utilities, site development, or public infrastructure
  • Proven experience managing P&L responsibility across $20M–$150M+ in annual project volume
  • Background progressing from Project Manager into senior operations leadership roles
  • Strong experience in self-perform construction environments with direct field execution exposure
  • Demonstrated ability to lead 5–15+ Project Managers and oversee 10–30+ field crews
  • Deep understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, forecasting, and margin control
  • Experience with construction management systems such as Procore, HCSS, Viewpoint, or similar
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence both field and office teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead operations across multiple heavy civil construction projects including underground utilities, site development, and municipal/DOT work
  • Oversee project managers, superintendents, and field teams to ensure alignment with production targets, schedules, and budgets
  • Maintain full P&L responsibility across a portfolio of projects, driving margin performance and profitability
  • Monitor job cost reporting, WIP, forecasting, and cost-to-complete to ensure financial accuracy and control
  • Improve field productivity by evaluating crew performance, production rates, and project sequencing
  • Coordinate scheduling and resource allocation across multiple active projects to maximize efficiency
  • Oversee equipment utilization and fleet management to reduce downtime and improve operational performance
  • Drive change order strategy, cost recovery, and margin protection across all projects
  • Implement and improve operational systems, processes, and SOPs to support company growth
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic planning, staffing, and operational improvements
