To direct the financial affairs of the Credit Union; to establish major economic and financial objectives and policies for the Credit Union. Developing and implementing financial policies, budget, and ensuring that the credit union’s financial stability. Focusing on both day-to-day accounting and finance, contributing to a high-level financial strategy.

  • Oversee accounting department; hires, trains, directs, and evaluates employee performance within the department; approves promotions, transfers, and salary adjustments.
  • Managing and mentoring the accounting department staff, assisting in the development of team members, and fostering a culture of financial responsibility and accountability.
  • Give and receive feedback from employees and complete performance reviews within the prescribed timeframe.
  • Reviews operational procedures to obtain optimum efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Prepare monthly Financial Statements and variance reports for presentation to Board of Directors and senior leadership.
  • Prepares financial reports, ensuring complete and accurate financial, statistical, and accounting records of the Credit Union.
  • ALCO member with responsibility of preparing and discussing Budgeted Dashboard ratios and Forecasted Liquidity reports.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the credit union’s financial strategy, including long-term financial planning.
  • Directs the Credit Union's investment activities as custodian of funds, securities, and assets of the organization; promotes the Credit Union in financial markets to ensure sources of capital.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain the annual budget.
  • Analyzes department budgets and allocates operating budget.
  • Managing the credit union’s budget, monitoring expenses, and ensuring financial resources are allocated effectively.
  • Identifying and mitigating financial risks, ensuring the credit union’s assets are protected.
  • Develops new business relationships with prospective customers and maintains or increases business with current key customers by making personal contacts.
  • Works with auditors/examiners on all audits and examinations.
  • Implements and reviews risk management initiatives.
  • Assist with forecasting and financial modeling.
  • Ensuring the credit union complies with all relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements (NCUA and GAPP).
  • Writes, reviews, and distributes financial policy and procedure statements to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of all policies and procedures applicable to your position. Maintain compliance with all regulations, understanding compliance issues, and receive proper training as they relate to the position.
  • Oversees reporting to regulatory authorities and to the Board.
  • Ensure the credit union's financial activities follow sound financial principles and comply with all banking regulations.
  • Provide recommendations to CEO and Board for potential improvements to the balance sheet mix and/or income and expense categories, as well as improvements for products, services, and processes.
  • Maintain a highly qualified staff sufficient to meet long-term organizational goals.
  • Ensure security and soundness of all credit union financial records, reviewing all general ledger accounts and subsidiaries monthly to ensure proper balancing, and review cash position daily to ensure sufficient availability of funds.
  • Achieve or exceed results as specified in the credit union's budget for investments.
  • Achieve total returns at or above peer group when including unrealized gains and losses. Manage investment portfolio in alignment with credit union’s strategic plan.
  • Complete projects as determined by President/CEO within the prescribed time frame.
  • Note observations of employee performance. Give and receive feedback from employees and complete performance reviews within the prescribed timeframe.
  • Five to ten years of similar or related experience.
  • A college degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting; CPA certification required.
  • The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust.
  • Excellent analytical skills, people skills, and self-direction are required.
  • Must be proficient with PC accounting, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
  • Background in data processing systems preferred.
