About The Position

Reporting to the President of Protection and Control Solutions (PCS), the VP, Engineering is responsible for the Protection and Control Solutions Group's (PCS) Engineering function and provides overall innovation leadership and strategic direction to the organization and the engineering community, developing talent and progressing the growth agenda of the company. Directs, leads and executes engineering priorities including designing, piloting, developing, and continuously improving valued offerings to meet customer needs and achieve compliance with requirements for circuit protection and control products and regional solutions - including technologies of sensing; embedded electronics; protective algorithms; solid state devices, AC & DC arc interruption, LV and MV systems. This role will be focused on continuing to create a customer-centric culture. The selected leader will emphasize and actively learn customers' applications and how they create business value and enrich the positioning of PCS' solutions and technologies commercially. This executive along with their respective team will build a future-looking, globally aligned organization and improve the organizational capability through tools, processes, staffing and experience creation. They will get involved and lead applicable external organizations to understand and influence codes and policies, for example, regulatory agencies (e.g. NEC) as well as Industry Associations (e.g. NEMA). This position is ultimately responsible for developing and implementing a Circuit Protection innovation strategy across the Americas and Globally through the GPLs (Global product lines) that drives new technologies in a coordinated manner across the component and distribution businesses (spanning revenue of over $3.7B between components and assemblies). Establish, develop, and execute PCS' engineering strategy with a focus on creating differentiation, intelligence, digitalization and solving energy transition. Build an environment conducive to innovation, leveraging corporate innovation center resources, government laboratories, universities, consultants, venture capital funded entities. Runs innovation events in an agile manner (experimenting), driving voice of the customer (observing). Create a prioritized view of all PCS investments (Waterline) for purposes of planning and resource allocations. Drive the talent strategy for the function. Attract, coach, mentor and facilitate growth of strong leaders within the organization & share ownership in developing future talent pipeline. Continuously improving the engineering organization's processes and tools so that innovation is executed with cutting edge techniques. Firm and smart usage of ProLaunch (internal system) is a key tool for commitment and getting results. Implement a project execution model that includes effective wall-to-wall program management, lean review routines, metrics, global staffing models, communication, collaboration tools and other leading practices. Drive transformation to reduce the time-to-market of our offerings with simulation and iterative designing. Leverage codes and standards as tools to move forward the business agenda. Engages with UL, NEMA, IEC or specialty standards groups to ensure the business objectives are proactively addressed and supported. Understand compliance management tasks including IP compliance, design for environment compliance, export compliance, UL/CE mark compliance and puts processes, routines of review, metrics and training in place to assure good legal and community standing. Interface, collaborate and coordinate with other functions (manufacturing, supply chain, etc.), customers, suppliers, etc. to ensure smooth introduction of new products, materials and manufacturing technologies. Drive a high-performance workforce - attract, coach, mentor and facilitate growth of strong leaders within the organization & share ownership in developing future talent pipeline. Associate/embark business leaders and product management in VOC/ideation process; regularly report/manage consistency of engineering activities with business. Embrace and role model global mindset: Ensure consistent deployment of all primary functions globally in alignment with the regional organizations. Enhance network effectiveness, and influencing approach, ensure consistent innovation direction within divisional and regional organizations (i.e. product development, delivering products, innovation, and business).

Requirements

  • Experience with large complex global R&D organizations.
  • Understanding of contemporary engineering practices and processes.
  • Minimum of 15 years related engineering experience (power engineering background desirable).
  • Minimum of 7 years' direct management experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or university; Master's degree preferred but not mandatory.
  • Possess experience in electrical components/systems design, new product development, and program management.
  • Knowledge of current engineering techniques, practices and engineering standards.
  • General knowledge of power electronics and power engineering.
  • Specialized technology, product, and marketing knowledge in the field of automation, electronics, power electronics, magnetics, circuit protection.
  • Proven track record of building organizational capability and talent through effective recruiting, training, coaching, development and optimizing organizational structure.
  • Consistently acts in an ethical, open, honest, trustworthy and truthful manner.
