About The Position

The Vice President, Hospital Operations leads day-to-day operations and provides administrative oversight over several key operational areas at Fairview Ridges Hospital. Top outcomes defining success for this role includes: 1. Economic performance – meeting budget, efficiency, productivity, net operating income (NOI), supply cost and purchase services; and 2. Volume Growth – such as emergency department visits, surgeries, and admissions. The role provides clinical and operational leadership in areas of culture, people leadership and performance, quality assurance/improvement, operations performance, team development, planning, budget management, site and domain performance. The Vice President of Operations provides direction, influence and make decisions in a highly complex and matrixed environment. This role will partner across the system to find efficiencies, ensure removing unwarranted complexities, achieve higher outcomes/lower cost, and move patients to most appropriate care quickly. The role ensures the integration of high-quality clinical services within site and the broader integrated care delivery system. The role uses position of prominence to increase the level of awareness and commitment toward clinical process and quality improvement within the hospital. Provides leadership for site initiatives and acts as a liaison to other Operational Leadership and System Committees. The role participates and collaborates with an inter-professional team of leaders, including hospital, medical staff, senior executives, service lines leaders, and senior services leadership, to develop quality initiatives, policies and procedures, and budget resource allocation. Partners with the Medical practice and Medical Staff to ensure effective, efficient, high quality patient care. The role provides operational leadership within the hospital and across System-wide initiatives and/or domain(s), including implementation of tactics or programs coming out of the strategic plan, service line program development, physician relationships, patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and community relationships. The role includes leadership and implementation of the Fairview Operating Management System using lean methodology and lean philosophy, care model planning and implementation, patient experience, employee engagement, quality and safety and cost management initiatives. The role assures operational performance across the hospital and achievement of initiatives to drive consistency and best practice performance. The role includes working as a liaison within the community, system, and service line leaders to ensure consistent and common standards for Operations. Responsible for Labor Relations and Negotiations for non-nursing staff within the hospital as appropriate. Represents the organization in the community through representation in various civic and social organizations. Provides representation as is deemed appropriate in national, state and local health care association boards, consumer groups and other related health care agencies. Works closely with the Chief Operating Officer Acute Care and VP Policy to ensure community connections align to business strategies.

Requirements

  • M.A./M.S. in Business or Healthcare
  • 7 yrs experience in healthcare leadership

  • Continually assesses, plans, and implements operational services
  • Uses quality and process/lean improvement tools and techniques to assess workflow opportunities and ensures process improvements.
  • Meets all regulatory requirements: Works in collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with accrediting, regulatory, inspecting agencies including The Joint Commission (TJC), MN Department of Health, etc. so that identified concerns are alleviated / resolved and sustained for high reliability.
  • Ensures Emergency Preparedness/Workplace Violence/Patient Safety for the campus
  • Collaboratively provides leadership with stakeholders to drive outcomes (e.g., planning, marketing, communications, nursing, medical staff and providers, shared clinical services, shared business services, shared facility services, domain, and IT).
  • Steward local culture to maximize employee engagement and employee experience
  • Provides leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote the recruitment, retention and recognition of staff.
  • Monitor and improve financial performance including encounter/RVU volumes, staff and other costs, and accounts receivable
  • Continuously builds customer understanding by monitoring patient satisfaction performance and customer feedback.
  • Serves as member of senior leadership team and works to enhance hospital/domain effectiveness, patient satisfaction and market position overall.
  • Is point person for division to ensure policy and procedures for physician contracts are followed. Supports education of division in proper procedures for physician contract request and oversight.
