About The Position

The Vice President of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) for the Transportation Division at Walsh Group is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of HSE programs to ensure compliance with regulations and corporate policies. This position requires participation in industry committees and conferences, and it aims to promote a culture of proactive safety management across the organization. The VP will work closely with divisional leadership to integrate HSE goals into business planning and ensure effective implementation of safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in major transportation and heavy civil construction projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health, Safety, Environmental or related discipline.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through BCSP required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience presenting to ownership and operational entities.
  • Experience developing safety programs and creating performance objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and establishes HSE programs, guidelines, and standards that support the company's business plans and comply with regulations.
  • Deploys HSE processes that demonstrate continuous improvement in HSE stewardship.
  • Develops annual operating planning and corporate governance processes, including audits and compliance initiatives.
  • Establishes key metrics for the HSE program to drive effectiveness across the company.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing and HSE education/training for all project teams.
  • Monitors and reports on changes in applicable OHS and environmental regulations related to operations.
  • Supports relationships with clients and stakeholders for HSE systems interface and deployment.
  • Develops and implements a unified strategy across all regions in the Transportation Division.
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of HSE teams, providing guidance to ensure alignment with company expectations.
  • Leads initiatives to identify and mitigate high-risk activities, focusing on reducing injury frequency and severity.
  • Promotes a culture of proactive safety management and accountability at all organizational levels.
  • Works with Divisional Leadership to integrate division-specific HSE goals into annual business planning.
