Description of Job: Provide leadership and direction in VBC’s global research and development and regulatory affairs with the objective to ensure growth and profitability of VBC.

Requirements

  • 15 years of experience in product development with practice of relevant technical discipline; leadership of global teams.
  • Global experience; efficacy expertise; technical focus; strategic thinking; leadership/management skills.
  • Ph.D. in plant physiology, microbiology, biochemistry or related field

Responsibilities

  • Leads the global R&D organization, including people, processes, facilities, and budgets.
  • Leads the strategic development and commercialization of new technologies, products, and value positions.
  • Manages the overall delivery of new products and technology on time, on budget, on specification.
  • Defines the mission and strategic direction for R&D; establishes tactics, metrics and insures implementation.
  • Develops and enhances the competitive state of VBC technology and technical leadership.
  • Continually improves the R&D Process from ideation through commercialization.
  • Strategically plans the technical infrastructure to achieve focus and balanced results.
  • Builds effective on-going relationships with other processes, functions and departments including supply chain, marketing and executive leadership within VBC and SCC.
  • Directs the integration of R&D activities with marketing and manufacturing.
  • Scans, identifies and recommends new products and technologies needed for innovation and growth.
  • Works closely with members of Sr. Management to draft, negotiate, and execute legal agreements that pertain to new technology evaluations, licensing deals, data compensation, etc. Over-see processes and activities associated with more routine legal agreements (e.g., CDAs) needed within the R&D organization. Maintain a log sheet of all legal agreements and track progress towards commitments.
  • Develops and champions VBC’s image as a leader.
  • Selects, manages and develops R&D team members.
  • Implements policies and procedures that ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Obtains intellectual property protection where appropriate and necessary.
  • Responds to competitive threats and opportunities.
  • Maintains and enhances industry presence, awareness, and influence.
