About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Vice President, Environmental Permitting and Planning (EPP) Sales & Growth (S&G) Leader to drive growth by leading major pursuits, and supporting client engagement across AECOM’s US East Region. This is an opportunity to drive sales, lead major pursuits, and help our practice grow to meet the needs of diverse markets across the eastern USA. This role is central to expanding AECOM’s footprint in environmental planning and permitting services—particularly for energy utilities, midstream oil & gas, renewables, federal, state, and local government clients . The ideal candidate brings strong technical literacy across natural and cultural resources, siting and routing studies, and federal and state permitting processes. This role aligns with East Region and Environment Business Line (EBL) strategies, reporting to the East Region Environment Strategy & Growth Leader. The EPP Practice Sales and Growth Lead will work closely with the EPP Regional Practice Leader and the East Environment Strategy & Growth Lead to achieve growth targets, drive practice improvements, and increase client engagement. Due to the nature of this role, the position can be remote/virtual and based at an AECOM office within the Eastern United States with travel as and when required throughout the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years extensive experience in environmental planning, permitting, or energy infrastructure including 4 years in a leadership role or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Proven track record in business development, sales strategy, and pursuit leadership
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. environmental permitting frameworks (NEPA, Clean Water Act, ESA, NHPA, state-level permits)
  • Hands-on experience with natural and cultural resources, environmental impact assessments, routing/siting studies, and permitting for complex linear and facility projects.
  • Demonstrated success in winning major pursuits and managing complex client relationships.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong proficiency in CRM Tools (Salesforce or similar)
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.

  • We are looking for a tactical driver of sales, who is a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of environmental planning, permitting, NEPA, natural and cultural resources.
  • We are looking for a leader with a proven track record of successfully managing complex pursuits, client relationships and accounts, and a strong familiarity with electric utilities, midstream oil & gas, governmental agencies, and energy transition markets.
  • Ability to manage and lead through influence is vital to the role
  • Ability to coordinate work across geographies, sectors, and within a matrix-led organization evidenced by successful consensus building and relationship management
  • Demonstrated ability for strategic and critical thinking that translates into actionable business development with new and existing clients
  • Ability to understand new issues quickly and make timely decisions after careful listening to a variety of perspectives
  • Ability and willingness to take a “hands-on approach” to resolve complex detailed problems to get the job done
  • Ability to work under pressure and drive tight deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Develop, and lead implementation of tactical strategic growth plans for the East EPP Practice
  • Support building and maintaining a deep and diversified qualified opportunity pipeline
  • Monitor and report on wins, bookings, and pursuit progress.
  • Work with the team to develop full year Wins and Bookings forecast on a monthly basis; monitor and report on progress versus goals, forecasts, variances to targets, and specific pursuit status, within the East EPP practice
  • Support operational leadership within the regional business line (e.g., Department Managers, Practice Leaders) in converting strategic plans into actionable tactics to achieve growth targets and objectives
  • Drive consistent application of AECOM Work Winning practices as it relates to strategy, growth, and pursuit capture, including but not limited to pipeline development & governance, go/no-go decisions, pre-positioning, capture planning, proposal development, and risk management
  • Identify and prioritize client opportunities; lead outreach and positioning efforts.
  • Direct or assist pre-positioning, differentiation, and delivery strategies for major transformative programs with current/prospective clients and internal partners
  • Support and hold accountable Client Relationship Managers for the ongoing development, maintenance, and implementation of their client engagements and delivery of their growth targets and objectives for EPP services across regulated utilities, midstream operators, major energy developers, and government agencies
  • Lead, coach, and mentor Capture Managers, Client Account Managers and other sales resources to facilitate growth and supporting their professional development.
  • Bring discipline and rigor to the Go/No Go process and capture management planning phase
  • Provide input on civic spending at a regional level and regional presence at national conferences.
  • Represent AECOM in industry organizations and events
  • Lead capture of critical pursuits. These will include siting/routing, environmental impact analysis, and federal/state/local permitting (e.g., NEPA, Section 404/10, Section 7 ESA, Section 106 NHPA, state-specific permits)
