As the senior data leader in the organization, this individual will serve as both a strategic partner and hands-on mentor, bringing deep expertise in team-building, analytics, and cross-functional collaboration. This role is central to shaping The Atlantic's future. It requires a strategic, analytically minded leader who balances innovation with operational excellence, is excited about AI's potential to transform an organization, and fosters a culture where data professionals can do their best work. • 10+ years of experience in data, analytics, or related fields, including 5+ years managing and developing data teams.

  • Professional experience with modern cloud data platforms (GCP preferred) and familiarity with tools like Astronomer, Fivetran, dbt Cloud, Looker, and Lytics.
  • A strong understanding of how data infrastructure, governance, and self-service models scale — and the judgment to evolve them thoughtfully.
  • Ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, from analysts to the C-suite.
  • Strong communication and mentorship skills, with a track record of developing inclusive, curious teams.
  • A genuine passion for The Atlantic's mission and journalistic values.

  • Recruit, develop, and empower analytical talent at all levels.
  • Play a pivotal role in defining company strategy, ensuring data informs roadmaps that drive business growth.
  • Champion and refine The Atlantic's decentralized/self-service data model, empowering stakeholders to access and interpret data independently.
  • Define, develop, and maintain key organizational metrics in partnership with executive leadership.
  • Serve as the executive "voice of data," translating complex insights into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
