About The Position

GM Financial Bank is a newly formed bank. Team members joining now will play a pivotal role in shaping the bank, which will offer auto finance and deposit products. Joining GM Financial Bank means an opportunity to help build a customer-focused bank from the ground up. This VP Controller-GM Financial Bank will be responsible for leading the accounting and finance function of the new GM Financial Bank under the leadership of the CFO. This VP will be prepared to both perform hands-on accounting and corporate finance work as well as supervise other accountants and financial analysts. This VP will coordinate activities of financial and regulatory reporting, accounting, credit, tax, and treasury services being provided by the GM finance organization, and external agencies and partners companies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Statutory and GAAP accounting principles, including banking and risk-based capital requirements
  • Advanced Excel skills required, and preferred working knowledge of Hyperion Essbase, PowerPoint, and Word
  • High level of interpersonal skills (oral, written, and presentation) to work effectively with a variety of different groups, and a strong commitment to teamwork and partnerships
  • Agile and able to deal with ambiguity
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Greater than 10 years’ experience with financial/accounting operations required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in banking leadership role required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics or equivalent work experience required

Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly financial reporting, including state and federal regulatory filings and proactively communicate findings and variance to leadership team
  • Work closely with start-up team to understand and evaluate various marketing and revenue-related initiatives
  • Lead the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting revenue recognition, and financial analysis of the business
  • Lead the development of processes necessary to support current and future businesses
  • Perform regular management reporting and ad hoc analysis to support growth and transformation initiatives
  • Coordinate accounting efforts across GM finance shared services in support of the business
  • Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls, SOX compliance and financial procedures
  • Develop talent / optimize team performance through stretch assignments, leadership exposure, career discussions, feedback, etc.
  • Lead by example displaying GM behaviors, commitment to personal development and commitment to creating a positive Workplace of Choice culture
  • Proactively identify, lead and monitor opportunities for process efficiencies within the Controller’s Staff
  • Responsible for managing a monthly close process including journal vouchers, account reconciliations, variance analytics, etc.
  • Strong focus on process improvements to drive quality accounting and compliance
  • Assist in developing and communicating global corporate accounting policies and practices
  • Train, coach, develop and evaluate employees
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls are implement/maintained and GM policies are being followed
  • Participate in SOX compliance, Audits (internal & external) and resolution of any matters
  • Write reports and summaries of findings in a clear and concise fashion
  • Develop and present data to other members of the organization
