About The Position

The VP, Commercial & Consumer Lending develops and implements growth and operational strategies aligned with the Credit Union’s strategic plan, ensuring portfolio profitability, sound lending practices, and modern workflows that mitigate risk. As a member of the Leadership Team, the individual in this role collaborates to drive innovation, manage risk, and foster an inclusive work environment. Maintains a highly visible presence and active involvement within the local market and community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and significant experience.
  • Requires minimum of 8 - 10 years’ lending experience in a financial institution, preferably Credit Unions. Experience must be multifaceted and include experience with commercial, indirect, and direct lending programs.
  • Requires at least 8-10 years of progressive managerial experience in a lending environment, in the financial industry.
  • Additional experience with Retail, Commercial and Real Estate Lending required.
  • Expertise and fluency with lending process flow, underwriting, risk management administration, portfolio management, and policy creation.
  • Proven expertise in executive level communication.
  • Comprehensive understanding of business development techniques, operations, procedures, forms, documentation, sales, retail, credit analysis, financial statement analysis, and recovery.
  • Ability to analyze loan requests and make solid, informed, and accurate recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills with the ability to foster the growth and professional development of the Lending team; ensuring staff is well trained in all consumer lending functions.
  • Ability to grow and expand business relationships.
  • Advanced knowledge of all applicable lending regulations – Federal, State and NCUA.
  • Innovative thinking with strategic vision, demonstrating excellent problem-solving and organizational capabilities.
  • Intermediate computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Office - EXCEL, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer knowledge and practical use of Loan Software: Meridian Link, Origence/CU Direct Lending, and Blue Sage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, transparency, support and actively communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with all individuals, at all levels of the organization with specific focus on the development and mentorship of managers in the commercial & consumer lending department.
  • Proactively promote an internal and external culture focused on the experience and relationship building of a dynamic team. Appropriate coaching, monitoring progress, cross-training and corrective action, as needed.
  • Partner with senior leaders of each functional area to align service and performance with organizational goals and objectives and ensure seamless experience across functional areas. Actively and consistently collaborate to identify and implement simplified/efficient processes and encourage retail member service standards.
  • Identify and implement targeted improvements to increase member/employee loyalty, retention, engagement, and satisfaction.
  • Serve as the principal advisor to the CXO on all issues associated with lending and credit risk management. Ensure overall soundness of loan portfolio, with the ability to identify and develop long term strategies that will include initiatives such as portfolio mix, growth strategic and market penetration objectives.
  • Direct, plan, organize and control all activities of the Consumer Lending and Commercial Lending areas. Ensure the effective, efficient, compliant, and secure operation of all lending functions. Works closely with the CXO to review, examine, measure, mitigate and report all risk within the loan portfolio.
  • Work with the CXO to provide leadership and strategic guidance for lending products and programs, and recommend pricing, strategies, new products, or enhancements based on product research and analysis. Set, maintain, and monitor benchmarks of department and team’s performance. Provide reporting, analysis, and feedback.
  • Advance the utilization of data and analytics insight to improve team’s decision-making skills, manage risk, and improve operations, service, and product creation.
  • Establish budgets that support the Credit Union's strategic plan for responsible areas. Monitor progress on a regular basis.
  • Oversee department’s vendor relationships, creating an atmosphere of partnership, and ensuring contract requirements are met and all services are fully utilized.
  • Work with the marketing and branch team leadership to define the consumer lending product and solution strategy, initiatives, and value proposition in alignment with the organizational goals and objectives. Keep abreast of changes in the industry and changing trends in lending.
  • Cultivate a department that demonstrates effective communication and collaboration with internal teams and external partners to effectively support organizational strategies and initiatives.
  • Ensure the lending area is maintaining compliance with all federal laws and regulations set forth by the National Credit Union Administration and state regulatory agencies. Ensure team’s proper training, procedures, and knowledge of the compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Use professional, well-developed interpersonal skills to project a positive image as a representative of the Credit Union.
  • Oversee risk management within related job functions, ensuring risk-informed decision-making and maintaining vigilance in identifying and addressing emerging risks.
  • Lead business line project management, system administration, executive level reporting, and communication.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
