Position Overview Leads and manages experience studies and development of assumptions for all new business and collaborates with the Valuation department on in-force treaty assumptions. Leads the preparation of pricing quotes for new business and oversees adherence to RGA global pricing standards. Communicates assumption and pricing outcomes to key stakeholders including senior management, department management, business development teams, and clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics or related field
  • FSA accreditation
  • 10+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance and/or reinsurance
  • Understanding of experience studies and interpreting predictive analytics
  • Advanced PC and technical skills, including spreadsheets and actuarial software.
  • Ability to model various insurance products and reinsurance structures.
  • Expert knowledge of health products.
  • Expert knowledge of experience studies and setting assumptions for projecting future benefit payments of Accident and Health Products.
  • Advanced ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives.
  • Highly advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by all stakeholders, including clients, associates, and senior leaders.
  • Exceptional ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional and technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate project objectives and scope for feasibility and understanding.
  • Highly advanced people management skills, demonstrating an ability to lead, mentor and develop associates.
  • Ability to manage associates who are difficult or resistant to leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment, to participate as a leader in department projects, and prioritize competing priorities to meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies best estimate assumptions for pricing of reinsurance transactions, and performs or oversees the pricing work (census development, actuarial modeling, capital modeling) including assisting business develop team with preparation of quotes.
  • Represent USIH from an actuarial perspective in relationship building, product development, assumption perspectives, and treaty negotiations with clients.
  • Provides oversight for financial projections and profitability metrics for existing reinsurance transactions to meet required internal reporting.
  • Manages annual experience studies process and provides best estimate assumptions for pricing purposes, managing in-force risk and for Valuation projections, collaborating with Valuation team and the USIH ALM actuary for investment and interest related assumptions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including new technologies, to improve the quality of pricing and assumption outcomes.
  • Fosters positive relationships with key internal stakeholders (examples include senior leadership, finance, marketing partners, clients, and corporate departments).
  • May perform or assist in some management duties including, but not limited to: hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, guiding, mentoring and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.
