About The Position

The VP/Accounting & Finance plays a pivotal role within our financial leadership team, overseeing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, and strategic financial planning. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this senior leader is entrusted with ensuring the accuracy, completeness, integrity, and timeliness of financial information, while also owning the stabilization, remediation, and continuous strengthening of accounting operations and internal controls. This role presents a unique opportunity to sustain confidence in financial reporting, foster financial excellence, lead strategic initiatives, and contribute significantly to the long-term success of the credit union. This team member embodies our mission, vision, and values, demonstrating robust business acumen and possessing the confidence to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels, auditors, and regulatory examiners from NCUA/DIFS. This role is accountable for the general ledger, close discipline, reconciliations, and audit readiness, ensuring issues are identified early, escalated appropriately, and resolved sustainably. This position has a starting annual rate of $129,300, but your offer amount may be increased with relevant work experience and transferable skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and/or similar years of experience or competency.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in progressively responsible financial roles, with a track record of success in complex organizations.
  • 7-10 years’ experience of asset/liability management, liquidity management, budgeting, accounting and financial analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, analytical skills, and business acumen.
  • Proven ability to establish discipline, accountability, and trust within finance functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in financial institutions.
  • Proficiency with Profitstar’s financial model or similar software.
  • Experience with mortgage sales in the secondary market.
  • CPA or MBA qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, reports, and analyses in compliance with regulatory requirements and GAAP standards.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and executive team to develop long-term financial strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Lead the accounting & finance team in managing day-to-day functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, forecasting, analysis, and reporting.
  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, and working capital to support operations and strategic investments.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the accounting and finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Implement accounting & financial policies and procedures adhering to regulatory and GAAP standards.
  • Serve on the Asset Liability Management Committee, managing interest rate risk functions and continual development of ALM processes.
  • Develop and maintain organizational, departmental, and product profitability models.
  • Participate in projects and duties as needed, with a primary focus on stabilization, risk reduction, and process maturity. Serving as a backup to other positions within Finance/Accounting when required.
  • Stay updated on innovative concepts within the credit union movement and financial services industry.
  • Perform other duties as directed by leadership.
