About The Position

The Voting Equipment & Logistics Assistant Manager serves as a critical support role within the Office of Elections in Fairfax County, overseeing the management and logistics of voting equipment for elections. This position involves supervising a team of over 50 technicians, ensuring the proper testing, deployment, and security of voting equipment used across multiple polling locations. The role is essential in facilitating the transition to a new voting equipment system and requires strong organizational skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to manage logistics effectively during peak election periods.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years of administrative experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Experience in an election office and with the election process.
  • Experience managing voting equipment or working in a voting equipment warehouse.
  • Experience supervising and managing temporary staff or poll workers.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills.
  • Ability to develop strategic and contingency plans.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise more than 50 voting equipment technicians in programming, testing, and repairing voting equipment.
  • Lead comprehensive pre-election logic and accuracy testing for over 1,400 pieces of voting equipment.
  • Manage warehouse operations, including security and inventory of voting equipment.
  • Use Airtable database software to track voting equipment inventory, testing, repairs, and chain of custody.
  • Develop and maintain strong chain of custody practices and security documentation for all voting equipment.
  • Utilize GPS, RFID, and related software to track the chain of custody of voting equipment.
  • Regularly communicate with voting system and ballot printing vendors for equipment orders and service calls.
  • Develop comprehensive plans for scheduling delivery and return of voting equipment from all polling places.
  • Develop procedures to efficiently handle election night logistics and recover unreturned items.
  • Support voting equipment during the 45-day early voting period at early voting sites.
  • Serve as a lead coordinator for the Tech & Emergency Support incident command center on election day.
  • Prepare essential forms, signs, general supplies, and other materials.
  • Respond to voter inquiries related to voting equipment and election security.
  • Conduct statutorily required risk-limiting audits of voting equipment annually or as mandated by law.
