Job Summary: The Volunteer Program Coordinator manages the daily work of volunteers and volunteer-run programs, coordinates outreach to volunteers and partner agencies, and facilitates volunteer support of library services, programs, and small and large-scale events. They contribute to the development of volunteer systems and tools that provide a consistent experience, supporting volunteer engagement. This position will directly support BoulderReads (literacy programs for adults and children). We are hiring for a 40-hour-per-week, non-exempt, at-will position.

Requirements

  • Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years of experience in organizing volunteers and volunteer programs or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technology skills: Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office, managing databases and a variety of technology tools, ability to learn and manage volunteer database/management systems.
  • Volunteer coordination: Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds and for broad variety of roles and tasks, from ongoing programs to one-day events. Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and learn about community needs and best practices for volunteer management on an ongoing basis.

  • Experience with project management and coordinating volunteer support for large-scale programs and events.
  • Experience with outreach and marketing to recruit new volunteers.
  • Experience with designing, creating, and managing new systems, tools, and processes to facilitate volunteer work.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and administers ongoing volunteer-run programs and services, including Reading Buddies, one-on-one tutoring, and other literacy programs, as assigned. (35%)
  • Conducts evaluation of volunteer support and participation, and volunteer services procedures and processes. Reports results, recommends improvements, and implements them. (10%)
  • Recruits, trains, supports, and coaches volunteers to effectively fulfill their roles. (20%)
  • Coordinates with and advises colleagues to plan for volunteer support needs, define goals, create work plans, and evaluate outcomes. (15%)
  • Trains staff on best practices, procedures, policies, and systems for volunteer management and to effectively use the volunteer management technology and systems. (10%)
  • Oversees the collection and maintenance of volunteer participation data to ensure data integrity. (10%)
  • Conducts evaluation of volunteer support and participation, and volunteer services procedures and processes. Reports results, recommends improvements, and implements them.
  • Coordinates with colleagues about volunteer involvement in BPLD services, programs, and events outside of the BoulderReads team.
  • Develops strategic relationships, builds effective alliances, and collaborates with other organizations and agencies to ensure volunteer programs are effective, inclusive, and aligned with community needs.
  • Coordinates program-specific and departmental, as well as library-wide volunteer appreciation.
