What does the Cheekwood Volunteer Team do and why join? At Cheekwood, the volunteer team plays a crucial role in enhancing visitor experiences and supporting daily operations. We assist with tasks such as guiding tours, providing information to visitors, helping with events or educational programs and assist at times in maintaining the gardens or exhibits. The Volunteer team also engages in the community and represents Cheekwood at various events supporting our mission. This role supports volunteer program operations for Cheekwood exhibits and events and will include working with or overseeing volunteers.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of school and work experience
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience working events in a public facing organization.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management ability
  • Ability to research and network with community partners.
  • Able to consistently work weekends, some weekdays and evenings.
  • Experience using MS Office
  • Can respond to emergency situations calmly and follow protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruitment and scheduling of community volunteers.
  • Build and maintain a relationship with Cheekwood Volunteer corps and community volunteers.
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed to support volunteer assignments.
  • Assist with volunteer recognition and appreciation events and activities, includes creating a quarterly volunteer newsletter
  • Help with volunteer program department admin projects, includes tracking attendance, digitizing dept records, utilizing large email blast programs
  • Assist with outreach support, outreach event preparation and participation
  • Attend Cheekwood staff trainings or meetings as schedule allows
  • Able to work weekends, some weekdays and evenings
  • Must be organized, flexible, able to handle some management responsibilities and can follow directions without direct supervision.
  • Must be outgoing, people friendly, and enjoy working with the public.
  • Research new community partners for program support and in line with Cheekwood’s mission statement.
  • Work with Director to create outreach and recruiting materials, and social media posts in partnership with marketing
