About The Position

Volunteer medical professionals with Lake County Public Health Agency support public health during emergencies and staffing gaps by providing supplemental clinical care, disease surveillance and prevention services, and health education. Volunteer medical professionals will be used during public health emergencies including infectious disease outbreaks, mass immunization clinics, and more. Volunteer medical professionals may also be utilized to fill gaps in services resulting from staffing changes, helping to ensure continuity of essential public health services. This role is essential in ensuring timely and consistent public health services are delivered to the Lake County community.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician's Assistant (PA), or Medical Doctor (MD).
  • Ability to work in high-stress, rapidly changing environments
  • Public contact experience in a service-related field with the ability to remain flexible and sensitive to a clientele diverse in age, ethnicity, and maturity.
  • Ability to work as part of a team. Effectively communicate and work with co-workers, clients, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; ability to apply conflict resolution and problems solving skills to minimize negative personal impact.
  • Work to rest ratio should not exceed 12 hours on and 12 hours off during emergencies
  • Just-in-time training will be provided to all volunteers when they are onboarded
  • Recommended training of Incident Command System ICS 100 and ICS 700.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with immunization clinics including vaccine education, administration, and observation
  • Perform communicable disease surveillance and education in coordination with state epidemiologists and LCPHA communicable disease nurse.
  • Provide infection prevention guidance to the public
  • Supports case management for Tuberculosis clients when necessary.
  • Assist in managing communicable disease outbreaks in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Fill out and track all appropriate paperwork and documentation, including patient records, nursing logs, and other reports.
  • Comply with all medical safety and legal requirements that are mandated by the hospital, clinic, city, state, and nation.
  • Keep patient confidentiality in accordance with health care regulations.
  • Provide case management for children with special needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.
