About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Communications & Outreach, the Volunteer Manager will provide support for The Arc Montgomery County through creating, implementing, and evaluating opportunities for individual, group, and corporate volunteers. The Volunteer Manager will also serve as the project manager for special events, including organizing planning committees comprised of internal and external stakeholders and overseeing execution. This position requires professionalism, confidentiality, flexibility, exceptional organization and project management skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, an energetic, enthusiastic approach to engaging and supporting volunteers, as well as demonstrated success managing events. This position may require some early mornings, weekends, and evenings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant professional experience; or Associate’s degree plus four years of relevant professional experience; or high school diploma or GED equivalency plus six years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Reliable personal transportation.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.

  • Success as a manager of special events is preferred.
  • Experience recruiting and engaging volunteers is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and model inclusive interactions and relationships.
  • Promote increased independence in all aspects of life for people supported, with emphasis on community engagement.
  • Encourage people to challenge traditional paradigms and change the way they view and interact with people who have disabilities.
  • Lead the volunteer program.
  • Build a pool of qualified volunteers, process applications and conduct onboarding.
  • Create pathways for adults to volunteer directly with people supported, aligned with the organization’s mission.
  • Create and supervise corporate volunteer opportunities and projects.
  • Assume primary management responsibility for organizing internal and external events, including but not limited to creating planning committees, maintaining the budget, and overseeing employees and volunteers.
  • Identify and solicit opportunities to enrich and expand The Arc’s volunteer program.
  • Represent The Arc during public events to provide information about the organization’s volunteer program and public events.
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications & Outreach team to promote volunteer opportunities and events.
  • Work collaboratively across departments and divisions to engage employees, board members and stakeholders.
  • Maintain a digital filing system of event and volunteer-related documents.
  • Conduct post-event evaluation meetings and report outcomes to determine best practices and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain the volunteer database, ensuring all trainings and requirements are up-to-date and documented.
