About The Position

Helping People. Changing Lives. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a key role in connecting community members with meaningful volunteer opportunities across CAPSLO programs. This position supports the agency’s mission by recruiting, placing, and engaging volunteers; maintaining strong communication with program staff; and ensuring volunteers feel welcomed, prepared, and valued. The Volunteer Coordinator also oversees the volunteer calendar for the Prado Warming Center and provides day‑to‑day coordination for College Corps Fellows assigned to the site.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in office management, public relations, administrative support, or a similar administrative role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local human services.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and data‑tracking tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to motivate, problem‑solve, and build trust with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to CAPSLO’s mission, goals, and performance measures.
  • Has dependable, insured transportation and a valid California driver’s license (mileage reimbursed). A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and meet all background and program‑specific requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Communications Director and Communications Supervisor in engaging volunteers across CAPSLO’s service areas.
  • Collaborate with program staff to develop and implement volunteer policies and procedures aligned with best practices.
  • Collect, track, and analyze volunteer data; prepare monthly Board reports highlighting trends and achievements.
  • Maintain the Prado Warming Center volunteer calendar and recruit volunteers to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Assist in creating communication streams, including social media and community outreach—to attract, recruit, and retain volunteers.
  • Represent CAPSLO at community events to promote volunteer opportunities.
  • Facilitate thorough volunteer orientations and ensure completion of all required documentation.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with volunteers to ensure they feel informed, supported, and appreciated.
  • Provide guidance and mediation support to volunteer site supervisors as needed.
  • Oversee College Corps Fellows at the Prado site, including daily direction, performance monitoring, and program coordination.
  • Use reasonable safety precautions and uphold all agency safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
