About The Position

The Volunteer Coordinator for Hospice is responsible for developing and maintaining the hospice volunteer program. This role requires a commitment to helping others achieve their goals while ensuring that volunteers are effectively integrated into the hospice team. The coordinator will assist with various aspects of volunteer management, including recruitment, training, assignment, and evaluation.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience in hospice and understanding of hospice philosophy.
  • An associate degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
  • One year of experience in a home care or hospice office setting preferred.
  • Willingness to attend educational classes, workshops, and seminars.
  • Ability to learn basic computer programs such as MS Word and parts of the clinical computer system for Hospice.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with strong oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems using good judgment.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of basic office duties and work on a computer.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines with high accuracy.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Use an outward mindset to achieve personal and team goals.
  • Assist with follow-up on requests for volunteer information and actively recruit volunteers.
  • Facilitate the 15-hour volunteer orientation-training program.
  • Screen applications, interview, hire, and obtain required documents for volunteers.
  • Make volunteer assignments based on qualifications and experience.
  • Verify that volunteers understand their duties prior to their first visit.
  • Introduce volunteers to families when appropriate and follow up to ensure satisfaction with care provided.
  • Notify families of volunteer cancellations or changes in assignments.
  • Monitor time sheets and volunteer documentation, ensuring adherence to the plan of care.
  • Prepare volunteer updates for IDT case conference meetings.
  • Maintain up-to-date volunteer files and track hours and mileage in a database.
  • Tabulate annual volunteer time and participate in recognition activities.
  • Conduct annual evaluations of active volunteers and document findings.
  • Provide ongoing education for active volunteers as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in fundraising, holiday events, memorial services, and liaise with the hospital auxiliary.
  • Be available in the office to take calls and inquiries from volunteers.
