About The Position
The Volunteer Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach with coaching expertise and guidance to student athletes related to a particular sport for the duration of the sports season. This role is integral to the Athletics Program at the assigned school, where the Volunteer Coach will help teach and model good sportsmanship behaviors, appropriate techniques, and skills related to the specific sport. Ensuring safe practices are implemented to protect students from physical injuries is a key responsibility, as is serving as a positive role model for the students, the school, and the school system. The position requires a commitment to uphold the values and regulations set forth by the school system, state, and conference, and to maintain a supportive and disciplined environment for student athletes. The Volunteer Coach will implement, interpret, and enforce existing school system, state, and conference regulations consistently. This includes attending all required public, staff, and departmental meetings, maintaining discipline, and working to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program. The role also involves assisting the Head Coach with scheduling, providing transportation to tournaments and special sport events, and preparing for scheduled sport events or practices while adhering to facility times. The Volunteer Coach will assist with the maintenance and protection of assigned equipment and ensure that all safety protocols are followed to safeguard the athletes. In addition to these responsibilities, the Volunteer Coach will assist with training rules and unique regulations of the sport, attend all practices and games, and provide guidance and safeguards for each participant while traveling. The position requires a proactive approach to instilling respect for athletic equipment and school property among players, as well as assisting the Head Coach in carrying out responsibilities and instructing team members on changes in rules and fundamentals of the sport. The Volunteer Coach is expected to strive for personal improvement by attending clinics and utilizing resources provided by the Head Coach, and to maintain a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering. Overall, this position is vital for fostering a positive and productive athletic environment for student athletes.
