To learn more about GSCY, visit our website: http://gscymca.org. The Princeton YMCA is seeking experienced basketball coaches to provide a quality safe sports environment to our community. The role of the head basketball coach is to be responsible for skill development, character development, and providing direction to athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in basketball.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of the game of basketball and ability to teach the fundamentals to youth participants.
  • Ability to build a strong foundation for the sport and build confidence and self-esteem for participants.
  • Ensures a positive member experience by interacting with players in a fair and professional manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • At least 1 year experience coaching or 2 years playing basketball on a team.

Responsibilities

  • Coaches in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans and practices accordingly.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Responsible for all team communication, conveys information on practice and game schedules, as well as refers students and parents to other programs as appropriate.
  • Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.) and handles all registrations and schedules for all team games/tournaments and practices.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Organizes and puts away needed equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
  • Trains and supervises team aides/volunteers as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
