About The Position

Organize and hold preseason communication meetings with players and parents, including “Meet the Coach” night prior to the start of the season. Work with the Athletics Director and athletic staff to coordinate the schedule of all games, practices and related activities. Show total commitment during the season, including being at practice and games early, staying until all players have left, and never missing a practice. Proactively continue to develop his/her craft by attending conferences/workshops and staying current on all groundbreaking techniques and skills. Ensure that Veritas sports teams operate in a manner that glorifies God and supports the mission and vision of the school. Work with the Athletic Director’s vision at all times and stay within the guidelines established by the Athletic Department, TAPPS, and AIPL. Work effectively with coaches at both the School of Logic and School of Rhetoric levels to carry out a coordinated, comprehensive, and vertically aligned athletic program. Ensure a positive athletic experience for both gifted and non-gifted athletes alike. This includes coaching the entire team together without showing bias or favoritism to certain athletes. Provide responsible supervision for student athletes at practices, games, and while waiting for parents to pick up their students after events. Ensure that coaches and players follow a team dress code before, during and after games, remembering that student athletes are representatives of Veritas Academy and should not bring undue or negative attention to themselves through their appearance. All team members, including coaches and support staff, should dress uniformly and look sharp. Employ consistent behavior management strategies with all student athletes, following established procedures when investigating student/team misconduct and consulting the appropriate administrators as needed. Inventory all records of uniforms handed out and returned each season. Maintain an off-season presence by participating in camps, training sessions and/or practices throughout the year. Meet with the Athletic Director at the end of each season to evaluate performance, keeping in mind that coaching employment extends only through the end of any given season and is subject to change.

Requirements

  • Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living.
  • Be in whole-hearted agreement with Veritas Academy’s Statements of Faith and Mission.
  • Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and action toward others (Luke 6:40). This includes being committed to God’s biblical standards for sexual conduct.
  • Be a Christian who is, and will remain during the period of employment, an active member of a Christ-centered church, growing in his/her Christian relationship with God, and actively practicing and exhibiting Christian principles of the Christian faith.
  • Be spiritually mature and consistently maintain a daily devotional and prayer life.
  • Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and be prepared to assist them in that task.
  • High school diploma
  • 3+ years of experience playing the sport to be coached
  • Take CPR and first aid training at least every other year, maintain certification, and be willing and able to render such aid when necessary.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, turn, reach lift (up to 50 pounds), carry, pull, push, climb and kneel.
  • Physically demonstrate athletic skills or techniques as they pertain to each sport.
  • Ability to use up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects and/or people.
  • Drive assigned vehicle with appropriate state driver’s license; follow all laws applicable.
