About The Position

The Non-Voice Majors Teaching Assistants, along with a supervising faculty member, will instruct non-majors at the Conservatory who are interested in learning the fundamentals of voice technique and singing performance. This teaching takes place through the Voice for Non-Majors course. Students in this position must be currently enrolled in either of the Conservatory’s Graduate Vocal pedagogy degree programs: the MFA in Musical Theater Vocal Pedagogy or MM Vocal Pedagogy.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • Students in this position must be currently enrolled in either of the Conservatory’s Graduate Vocal pedagogy degree programs: the MFA in Musical Theater Vocal Pedagogy or MM Vocal Pedagogy.
  • Students in this position must have good interpersonal skills, work well with a range of levels of interest and skill, be able to strengthen the confidence of students in the class.

  • Experience in classroom teaching is a plus
  • Experience teaching voice is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Teaching assistants will prepare syllabi, classroom materials, and take attendance for their classes.
  • Under the guidance of a supervising faculty member, they will teach technical concepts, select and teach repertoire, coach styles, and administer and give feedback on in-class performances.
