Trains inmates in the use of shop equipment and software. Organizes work stations and workflow to ensure maximum participation and production levels. Supervises the distribution and use of equipment to ensure proper utilization of tools, machines, and supplies, and to prevent misuse and/or accidents. Assesses inmate work interest, aptitudes, tolerance, and mechanical ability for determination of work assignments and rehabilitation purposes. Creates and maintains records of inmate work and work habits. Determines workload, schedule, and standards for inmates based on work tolerance, type of work performed, and custody policies. Reviews and evaluates inmate work performance and work products for quality, accuracy, timeliness, and safety. Prioritizes and re-prioritizes the work based on customer input and directions received from Departmental higher authorities. Designs or adapts customer designs of signs and other media for production. Calibrates, maintains, and operates hardware and software for the design and production of signs and other media. Creates and maintains a positive and productive learning environment for inmates to gain and apply work knowledge and skills that are applicable to the real world. Communicates with customers via email, phone, and in-person to define product specifications, provide the customer with production options, and advise them of physical and policy restrictions regarding the preparation of media. Conducts inventories of supplies, tools, and equipment used in the production of signs and other media. Orders supplies needed in the preparation of signs and other media. Assumes the duties of absent personnel to ensure project deadlines are met and inmates receive adequate supervision and training.
