About The Position

The Vocational Trainer/Cook/Baker is an integral position at Saint John's Program. This role is responsible for delivery of the hands-on training portion of SJP's vocational training program. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Social Enterprises, the Vocational Trainer/Cook/Baker ensures that vocational learners (VL's) are learning how to master both their hard and soft vocational skills as they progress towards self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work well in team environment
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Punctual and good attendance
  • Effective communication skills including both oral and written form
  • Attention to detail
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • A current CA driver's license and proof of auto insurance are required.
  • A Food Handler's Certification will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Spanish language (spoken and written)
  • Trauma informed training

Responsibilities

  • Provide teaching, training, and supervision for volunteer learners (VL's) on the various aspects of the different projects managed by SJP kitchen staff.
  • Exhibit the ability to remain calm, but assertive, in tense situations.
  • Able to establish rapport with a diverse range of people.
  • Able to aid VL's in managing interpersonal conflicts and identifying solutions.
  • Exhibit clear and effective communication skills.
  • Prep and scale out recipes for production.
  • Implementation of cooking/baking product recipes.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position which includes, but is not limited to, standing for up to 10 hours and lifting up to 40lbs.
  • Practice and assure adherence to sanitation and safety procedures, as well as SJP's operational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
