About The Position

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in psychology, sociology, education, or a related field for VRT I.
  • For VRT II-IV: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in rehabilitation, psychology, sociology, social work, education, or a related field, plus one to three years of qualifying experience depending on classification level.
  • A Master's degree in Rehabilitation, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, or a related field may satisfy the minimum qualification for VRT II-IV.
  • Qualifying experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis.

  • Experience in direct VR Counseling work for higher starting salary.

  • Ability to read and write uncontracted and contracted Braille.

Responsibilities

  • Provides training in emotional adjustment to blindness, travel skills, independent living skills, communication skills, and vocational training.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of in-house reports and supply requisitions.
  • Participates in planning and teaching group skills training and classes for customers and staff.
  • Reviews and evaluates customer case files to coordinate vocational rehabilitation services.
  • Builds relationships with businesses to provide career opportunities for customers.
  • Collaborates with professional staff to assess customer readiness and skill needs.
  • Develops and maintains community resources to support rehabilitation outcomes.
  • Maintains case documentation of teacher services.
  • Provides consultative services and technical assistance to interdisciplinary team members.
  • May serve as team leader and direct staff or organizations in specialized casework.
  • Provides training and mentoring to other vocational rehabilitation teachers.
