RMC is seeking a highly skilled Senior VMware System Administrator to join our integrated team in Indian Head, MD. You will collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, service desk analysts, and other IT professionals to maintain and optimize a robust virtualized infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a resourceful self-starter who is proactive, customer-oriented, and solution-driven.

Requirements

  • Active Interim DoD Secret clearance required to start; Top Secret clearance required for continued employment.
  • DoD 8570.01M IAT Level III certification (CompTIA CASP+ CE, CISSP, or equivalent).
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher certification.
  • 7–10 years of experience managing VMware infrastructure.
  • Expertise in SAN/NAS storage administration, especially in virtualized environments.
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerCLI, Python, Ansible, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of Windows/Linux server environments and networking (VLANs, firewalls, load balancers).

Nice To Haves

  • NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) or higher.
  • Experience managing hybrid cloud or multi-site VMware deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and manage VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi environments.
  • Design, deploy, and administer VMware NSX and SDN solutions, defining virtual networks, security rules, and automation workflows.
  • Integrate and manage container platforms (Kubernetes, Tanzu, Docker) within the VMware ecosystem.
  • Monitor performance, capacity, and availability to optimize the virtual environment.
  • Automate tasks and deployments using PowerCLI, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues within virtualized compute, storage, and network layers.
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery solutions using VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM).
  • Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, designs, and operations.
  • Collaborate with IT, security, and application teams to design hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure solutions.
  • Perform system hardening following DoD STIG standards and maintain compliance artifacts.
  • Administer NetApp SAN/NFS storage systems, including firmware patching, upgrades, and provisioning.
  • Support Tier 3 escalations and ensure high service reliability.
