About The Position

The VMWare Administrator will be responsible for monitoring and managing systems that operate through VMware products and services. The VMWare Administrator will ensure the security and stability of virtual computer infrastructure by running technical control procedures to maintain quality standards. This position will support, administer, maintain, and sustain virtual infrastructure platforms hosted in an enterprise IT environment. The VMWare Administrator will provide technical support for incident response, service degradations, outages, and other interruptions. This hybrid position requires the candidate to reside within 50 miles of Fort Knox and maintain the ability to report on-site as needed to support operational and mission requirements.

Requirements

  • VMware and shared computing environment experience.
  • Documentation background with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with networks, storage or backups in an enterprise environment.
  • Ability to manage work priorities based on customer impact and available resources
  • Understanding of private cloud principles.
  • Ability to work with a team to coordinate tasks, collaborate, develop professional relationships and work effectively
  • General knowledge of systems software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • General knowledge in and ability to implement IT strategy, plans, and SOPs.
  • Ability to support tasks and issues through to completion, strong follow-through and critical problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to report to on-site technical assistance within 1 hour of Ft. Knox
  • Good interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated-company employees as well as outside business associates; exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others.
  • Superior organizational, follow-up, and detail-oriented skills.
  • Work independently, as well as on a team and with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; including thorough knowledge of proper grammar, advanced vocabulary, spelling, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and industry-standard computer software and databases.
  • High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential information.
  • Sufficient fine motor skills for the use of computers, calculators with an ability to withstand repetitive keyboarding for extended periods of time.
  • Visual and communications ability adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to travel by vehicle or aircraft, and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Three or more years of experience in VMWare systems administration, Virtualization or equivalent
  • Valid Security+ certification
  • VCP, VACP, VCP5, or MCSA certification
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Demonstrated experience designing and supporting large-scale government or enterprise networks.
  • Active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain
  • Must be U.S. citizen
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Information Technology or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a 24.7 military or government IT environment

Responsibilities

  • In-depth understanding of VMware technologies, including vSphere/ESXi, VMware View, vCenter, Site Recovery Manager running in an enterprise environment.
  • Ensure cyber compliance, auditing, evidence capture and storage activities.
  • Load and deploy new servers as well as create and maintain Windows server images.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project leads to improve new systems, policies, standards, and practices.
  • Document, monitor, tune and manage multiple systems across a geographically diverse area.
  • Coordinate routine, expedited, and emergency maintenance.
  • Share and receive technical knowledge from other members of the team
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and as assigned.
