About The Position

We are seeking a passionate and visionary Visual Arts educator to help build and shape a comprehensive K4–9 visual arts program at our growing Aug Prep North campus. This role offers the unique opportunity to develop an innovative, spiraling curriculum that nurtures creativity, skill, and artistic expression from early childhood through high school.

Requirements

  • Belief in the creative ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, or related field (Master’s degree a plus), including any other requirements for accreditation. State teaching license not required.
  • Passion for inspiring creativity in young artists and cultivating a love for the arts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across two buildings on the same campus, integrating the arts into a growing school community.
  • Self-motivated, innovative and organized to be able to manage multiple grade levels and organize arts events
  • Commitment to faith-based education and to nurturing students’ character alongside their artistic growth.
  • Active participation in a Christian church.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Team player committed to the St. Augustine Preparatory mission and model.
  • Strong background in visual arts education, with expertise in 2D/3D art fundamentals
  • Skill and confidence in working with ceramics, including kiln usage, or willingness to learn.
  • Experience in developing curriculum across grade levels or a demonstrated ability to build and scale programs.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to early childhood, elementary, and middle school developmental stages.
  • Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity, and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of St. Augustine Prep.

Responsibilities

  • Build and teach a cohesive K4–9 visual arts program that grows students’ artistic skills, creativity, and personal expression.
  • Integrate both Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) approaches and Discipline-Based Art Education (DBAE) principles, including art history, aesthetics, and critique, throughout a spiraling curriculum.
  • Teach and inspire students across early childhood, elementary, middle, and introductory high school levels in a way that nurtures skill development and artistic understanding.
  • Introduce students to a variety of media, including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and contemporary digital tools.
  • Incorporate ceramics at all levels and maintain the ceramics studio, with the potential to expand upper-level coursework over time.
  • Create a classroom environment where students explore, reflect, and create as artists, building both technical skill and artistic voice.
  • Build trusting relationships with students so each child feels known, seen and loved.
  • Serve as the cultural and spiritual model for their students, always interacting respectfully and striving to demonstrate God’s love to their students and families.
  • Support students’ character development by modeling and reinforcing the Aug Prep Way: serving in love with integrity, respect, courage and perseverance.
  • Collaborate with the Arts Team to support interdisciplinary learning, cross-grade arts events, and school-wide celebrations of creativity.
  • Communicate proactively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues, providing frequent updates on student progress, classroom activities, and school initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents/guardians, and community members, maintaining positive, solution-oriented relationships that foster a strong, inclusive environment for optimal learning.
  • Seek professional growth through building and department meetings/professional development, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars/in-services on a continuous basis.
  • Showcase student work across the school to honor achievement, build pride, and celebrate the diverse artistic gifts of students on a regular basis
  • Participate in school-wide and end-of-year Arts Live events to highlight student growth, joy, and artistic expression.
  • Monitor and support students during morning arrival, lunch, recess and dismissal.
