About The Position

Millbrook School seeks a photography teacher for the 2026-27 academic year. The teacher will teach all levels of photography while stewarding Millbrook's photography studio space. Photography at Millbrook is a vibrant program that serves students at the beginning of their journeys as artists as well as those who are advanced and may attend art school. Millbrook's arts department is highly collaborative, working in the Holbrook Arts Center, where visual and performing arts are gathered under one roof. Here, teachers and students explore a contemporary framework for art making and performing that is interdisciplinary both within the arts center and beyond. In addition to teaching, this position includes coaching or supervising an afternoon program for two out of three seasons, supporting our social-emotional program on Saturday mornings, and serving as an advisor for up to six students. Full-time faculty members are also expected to participate in community service, evening responsibilities, activities, assemblies, and attend required meetings and workshops. The primary goal of a teaching faculty member is to ensure that each student reaches their highest potential. Housing may be provided and would entail residential life duties. Requirements

  • Comfort with Mac operating systems
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Dropbox for archiving student work
  • Large and medium format digital printing
  • Experience with photographic alternative processes like cyanotype
  • Experience with darkroom development and printing
  • Bachelor’s degree in the subject being taught or a related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Clean & valid driver’s license
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Patience, tact, and enthusiasm when dealing with personnel, students, and families
  • Proficiency in the composition of written communication

Responsibilities

  • Write three advisor letters for each advisee over the course of the year
  • Act as a mentor and shepherd the student’s growth
  • Meet weekly with advisees on Tuesdays during alternating seated lunches and meeting times, and schedule additional time as needed
  • Maintain regular contact with parents or guardians and keep them informed of their child’s progress
  • Communicate proactively with colleagues about their advisee
  • Share in all other boarding school responsibilities, including office hours, assembly, formal dinner, department meetings, faculty meetings, orientation programs, award assemblies, trustee and parent weekends, workshops, and additional duties as determined
  • Assist with opening days, winter weekend, and commencement weekend
