About The Position

The University of Olivet, a liberal arts institution with an historical commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social justice, seeks in-person Adjunct Instructors in Visual Arts for the Fall 2026 semester and beyond. Instructors with experience in Sculpture and/or teaching foundational visual arts classes are encouraged to apply, as there are openings for both studio sculpting and foundational classes. These positions are part-time for in-person, daytime or evening instruction on The University of Olivet campus, with most classes meeting twice each week for 15 weeks. The University of Olivet’s visual arts program is a studio-based model that emphasizes drawing, realism, and disciplined skill development, welcoming students at all levels of preparation. The program currently offers drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and graphic design in small, relationship-focused studio courses. Alongside traditional technical mastery, the program emphasizes a broad view of art over time and through various cultures, intentionally engaging questions of character, responsibility, and purpose, culminating in a senior project that integrates artistic practice with reflection on Olivet’s commitment to Education for Individual and Social Responsibility. The university has a diverse student body, with 26% from underrepresented minorities and almost 20% identifying as African American, and approximately half of the student body is Pell grant eligible. The University of Olivet was founded in 1844 as an institution of higher education open to all regardless of race, gender, or ability to pay, and continues its tradition of creating and sustaining a welcoming and inclusive educational environment for students and maintaining its commitment to social justice.
