About The Position

The Vistra Control System Engineer provides subject matter expertise for the major control systems in the Vistra Generation fleet. The position will primarily be responsible for supporting the turbine and balance of plant control systems but other duties may be assigned to support other systems throughout the plant. The position provides engineering analysis and options for issues (factoring in safety, performance, and market conditions) throughout the entire asset life cycle. The engineer is involved in industry user groups and forums and provides industry leading ideas back into Vistra. The engineer supports internal initiatives and teams related to control systems including asset preservation, trip reduction, standardization, and security. The engineer supports short- and long-range budget planning and execution. The engineer supports the development of fleet-wide technical advisory bulletins, standards, and processes related to control systems. The engineer shares best practices and lessons learned throughout the fleet. The engineer communicates effectively will all levels within the Vistra organization and with external resources and contacts. Grade will be determined by skills and experience.

Requirements

  • 5+ years relevant experience (power generation operations, maintenance, engineering)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, creative problem solving and team building
  • High level of expertise in MS Office suite
  • Bachelor of Science in an accredited Engineering program
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
  • Demonstrated aptitude consistent with the job’s key accountabilities
  • Willingness and ability to travel; overnight, out of town, or out of state, as necessary
  • Meet or exceed all annual business objectives – including but not limited to: Safety, environmental and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide engineering technical support activities to meet corporate development, asset utilization and market driven goals.
  • Consistent responsiveness to Development, Operations, and Management needs.
  • Seek continuous improvement for personal and organizational betterment

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise for turbine and balance of plant control systems.
  • Responsible for improving control system reliability and supporting continuous improvement of fleet processes.
  • Maintain Vistra’s asset preservation program which supports long-range planning for maintenance and reliability of control systems.
  • Subject matter expert for GE Mark VI/VIe, Emerson Ovation, Emerson Delta V, and/or Schneider Foxboro control systems
  • Investigates instrumentation equipment failures and recommends actions to enhance the system and equipment reliability
  • Assist asset management group in developing short range and long-range budget plans while maintaining viable system lifecycle management
  • Assist plant management in developing plant I&C technical skills and capabilities
  • Coordinate with in-house engineering, equipment specialists and operation’s site staff to ensure consistent, practical, and effective engineering solutions
  • Represent Generation Services on corporate, technical, and user group committees
  • Support Generation Cyber Security Initiatives related to control systems
  • Support Construction Projects, and plant upgrades, by providing Control System Design Review and Factory Acceptance Testing
  • Support Work directly with OEM and other developers to verify proposed system changes
  • Work cross functionally with POC, Technical Services, Development, Construction, Renewables Engineering, Plant Operations, Strategic Sourcing/Supply Chain, Legal, and Generation Cyber Security (GenSec)
  • Frequent business travel in support of plant outages and construction projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
