This project focuses on optimizing laser phase plates to control the transverse distribution of ultraviolet laser pulses. The work will involve simulations of phase-plate designs that produce a transversely homogenized laser profile. The project will also investigate the practical realization of these phase plates using nanofabrication facilities available at the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM). Time permitting, fabricated masks will be experimentally tested and characterized using available laser systems at the Argonne Wakefield Accelerator (AWA) or the Advanced Photon Source (APS). This research is conducted as part of the University of Chicago course PHYS 335 (Research Project).
