About The Position

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist research activities in controlled environment agriculture (CEA) by applying artificial intelligence, computer vision, and automation to crop sensing and monitoring. The visiting scholar intern will contribute to developing AI-enabled systems for plant health assessment, disease detection, and automated material handling. Major duties include:

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree and 1 year post-graduate experience is required in the area of computer vision, image processing is required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement computer vision pipelines for crop monitoring, plant stress detection, and disease identification in greenhouse environments.
  • Apply machine learning and deep learning models (semantic segmentation, domain adaptation, multimodal AI) to analyze plant and environmental data.
  • Support the integration of AI algorithms with robotic and sensing systems for real-world deployment.
  • Assist in experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis for USDA-funded CEA projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, research manuscripts, and conference presentations to communicate project results.
