About The Position

The Visiting Research Specialist position at the Jane Addams College of Social Work involves providing operational leadership and coordinating the execution of a mixed methods program evaluation study focused on the implementation of the Williams Consent Decree. This decree mandates that the state ensure nursing home residents with serious mental illnesses receive care in the least restrictive environment possible. The role requires collaboration with an evaluation team to manage the day-to-day operations of the study, which includes submitting and managing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, recruiting study participants, and overseeing data collection and management. The specialist will also engage in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and work closely with counterparts at the Illinois Department of Mental Health (DMH) to disseminate findings through written reports and presentations to various stakeholders. Key responsibilities include conducting literature reviews related to the Olmstead Decision, monitoring legal proceedings related to the Williams Consent Decree, and collaborating with the project team to design and implement effective data collection strategies. The specialist will participate in planning and progress review meetings, provide research and operational leadership to ensure project objectives are met, and oversee the collection of all evaluation study data. Additionally, the role involves supervising project staff, preparing interim and annual reports on evaluation findings, and performing other related duties as assigned. This position is critical in ensuring that the evaluation study is conducted effectively and that the findings contribute to the understanding and implementation of mental health services in nursing home environments.
