About The Position

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Reading, Literacy, and Learning at Longwood University is a full-time, non-tenure-track instructional faculty position focused on teaching literacy education courses. The role emphasizes collaboration with community partners and the integration of reading sciences to promote educational equity. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, supervision of practicum students, and course design, contributing to the development of future educators in literacy education.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate from an accredited university in Reading and Literacy Studies or a closely related field (ABD candidates will be considered).
• At least 3 years of experience and excellence in teaching in PreK-12 settings with a focus on reading instruction.
• Preference for experience as a reading specialist and/or literacy instructional coach.

• Knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction.
• Experience providing literacy education to in-service educators.
• Experience supervising field-based student practicum placements.
• Possession or eligibility for Virginia state teaching license.
• Experience in online teaching in higher education.
• Familiarity with course learning management platforms such as Canvas.
• Engagement with literacy professional organizations.
• Ability to support adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Teach 12 credit hours of literacy-related graduate courses each semester.
• Supervise students within practicum-based settings.
• Collaborate with colleagues and community partners to design courses and programming.
• Integrate reading sciences into literacy education.
• Promote educational equity in literacy teaching.
