About The Position

Transylvania University (www.transy.edu), a top-tier, independent, residential liberal arts college in Lexington, Kentucky, invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics. This is a full-time, two-year, non-tenure-track position, teaching in-person classes, beginning August 27, 2026. Transylvania University recognizes that a diverse and inclusive community is essential to the fulfillment of our mission as a liberal arts institution. To that end, we seek to attract a diverse faculty skilled in the scholarship of teaching, research, and mentorship of students from a variety of backgrounds. The mathematics program is an exclusively undergraduate program that emphasizes innovative, hands-on teaching in small class settings. The teaching load consists of three courses per term, plus one short-term course in May (3-3-1). We are interested in candidates with the ability to teach a range of courses such as Precalculus, Calculus I and II, Elementary Statistics, Contemporary Mathematics (non-majors), as well as a potential elective in their specialty.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. or nearly completed Ph.D. is required
  • some college level teaching experience
