About The Position

St. Lawrence University invites applications for a one-year, full-time visiting assistant professor position in German and Film Studies to begin August 2022. Highest consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrated specializations in German-language cinema and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching film and media studies. The successful candidate will teach 3 courses per semester, including the full-year sequences in Elementary and Intermediate German, a special topics course in German cinema (in English), and a core film studies course, either History of Cinema or Introduction to Film Studies. The Department of World Languages, Cultures, and Media, as well as St. Lawrence’s new program in Digital Media & Film are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community. Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in German Studies or a related field is preferred at the time of appointment, but ABDs may also be considered.
  • Native or near-native fluency in German is required.
  • Experience teaching German language and culture at the undergraduate level.
  • Applicants to submit a one-page diversity statement on how their teaching, scholarship, and/or service strive to promote diversity and inclusion in a liberal arts environment.
