About The Position

The Department of Art and Art History at Rollins College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Early Modern Art History (ca. 1400-1800). The position is a two-year, non-tenure-track sabbatical/service replacement with a 4/4 teaching load, beginning in August 2026. All courses are offered in an in-person small classroom format and taught to an undergraduate population. Area of specialization is open, and especially welcome are applicants who can emphasize connections beyond one region. Opportunities exist for on-site teaching at the Rollins Museum of Art, which includes the Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art. Courses that could be cross-listed with African & African American Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, Middle Eastern & North African Studies, and/or Sexuality, Women's & Gender Studies programs are especially welcome. Rollins College is a comprehensive liberal arts college located just north of Orlando, FL, a diverse metropolitan community with a thriving economic and cultural scene. Requirements

  • PhD in art history by the time of appointment (Aug. 24, 2026).
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level; at least a Teaching Assistant capacity with potential to excel in the classroom.
  • Teaching/research focus in Early Modern Art (ca. 1400-1800).
  • Demonstrates an understanding that a liberal arts education includes a student-centered undergraduate experience with a focus on teaching.
  • Articulates the ability to contribute to and sustain a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment at Rollins.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching experience as instructor of record.
  • Ability to teach Art of the Early Modern Period emphasizing global connections.
  • Experience in object-based teaching, community engagement, and/or digital humanities.
