About The Position

Canisius University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Department of Criminal Justice for the Spring 2026 academic semester. This is a teaching-focused position with no research or service obligations. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching four classes and holding office hours to meet with students.

Requirements

  • Candidates who are ABD or hold a JD or MA degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice or a closely related field required; PhD preferred.
  • Prior successful teaching experience at the college/university level required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate courses in criminology and criminal justice.
  • Experience in some, but not all, of the listed courses required: Introduction to Criminology, Comparative Criminal Justice Systems, Treatment of Offenders, Criminalizing the Mentally Ill, Senior Seminar.
  • Candidate must be available to teach assigned courses in person on the Canisius University campus.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and student learning within a liberal arts context.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Canisius University and the Jesuit tradition in education.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities
