About The Position

Wofford College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach first- through fourth-year Chinese language, literature, and culture courses in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. The position carries an initial one-year term for the 2026–2027 academic year, with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and departmental needs . At Wofford, faculty serve as teacher-scholars dedicated to the education and mentorship of undergraduates in a liberal arts tradition. We seek candidates who have a passion for teaching undergraduates. The teaching load will be 3 -0- 4 . In the fall of 202 6 , the person selected will teach two Chinese language courses and one Chinese culture course taught in English and will play a significant role in Chinese event programming . In the spring 202 7 semester, the visiting assistant professor of Chinese will teach four Chinese language courses . The Chinese culture or literature cou rses will be determined in consultation with the hired candidate. This candidate will not be required to teach during the college’s interim, which runs the entire month of January. This candidate will be working collaboratively in the growing Chinese program within the MLLC department and throughout the campus, including extracurricular multicultural events.

Requirements

  • Native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • C over letter explaining the ability to teach Chinese language courses and culture/literature course s (including relevant teaching experience and evidence of effective and inclusive teaching )
  • C urriculum V itae (with contact information of three professional reference s )
  • A statement of teaching philosophy that includes an articulation of interest in and understanding of working at a residential liberal arts college , as well as any relevant experience with extracurricular planning and promoting the study of Chinese
  • Two sample syllabi: one for a language course and one for a literature or culture course
  • Graduate transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable prior to hire)
