About The Position

The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology. The appointment will begin with the 2026-2027 academic year (beginning in August 2026). This is a nine (9) month academic position with a minimum teaching load of six (three credit) courses per year depending on research activity or University service commitments. Webster University is located in St. Louis, a city known for its rich culture, passionate sports fans, and central location for travel. We are also a major biomedical hub which has seen significant growth in the bioeconomy, biotech, and health care fields.   Applicants requiring University sponsorship to obtain employment authorization will not be considered for this position.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biology or related field.
  • An ABD currently enrolled graduate student will be considered in special cases.
  • Applicants should be qualified to teach (in person and online) courses from the Department’s core offerings and have demonstrated expertise in content area(s) needed for instruction.
  • Course assignments will include Essentials of Biology I, Essentials of Biology II, and the possibility of some laboratory sections each semester.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and staff and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicants whose academic and/or research experiences include: artificial intelligence in biology, bioinformatics, botany, plant genetics or plant physiology are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Other course assignments may include Bioinformatics, Virology, Bioinformatics, Plant Physiology, or Journal Club.
  • Additional consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate competence in the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work independently and collaboratively with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways; demonstrate excellence (or strong interest) in providing inclusive opportunities for high-impact practices, including mentoring undergraduate research; demonstrate experience teaching a diverse student population, including international students; and whose scholarly interests compliment those of existing faculty and/or would add novel contributions to the department.
