About The Position

The Department of Greek, Latin, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (GLAM) at the University of Puget Sound, a predominantly undergraduate liberal arts college in Tacoma, Washington, seeks to recruit a Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2026-2027 academic year. We seek a scholar who specializes in Latin language, Roman culture, or Roman history and who can teach broadly across the department's curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six courses over a two-semester schedule (3/3). The teaching load will include courses in translation at all levels (such as myth and ancient comedy), as well as intermediate and/or advanced Latin. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Classics, Ancient History, Archaeology, or a similar discipline (ABD considered).
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching is required.

  • Faculty salaries at the University of Puget Sound are based on a common salary scale based on experience. Assistant Professor salaries in 2025-2026 begin at $73,904 annualized for an assistant professor without a terminal degree in their field in their first year of full-time post-doctorate teaching through $83,262 annualized based on experience.
