About The Position

The Computer Science Department within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering at the University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for AY27-28. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program in computer science. In addition, the applicant will be responsible for teaching 2-4 courses per year at the undergraduate and graduate levels and participate in curriculum development. Specific teaching assignments will be determined by the candidate's expertise and the needs of the Department. Faculty are expected to provide service to the College and to their home departments and programs by participating in governance as well as providing professional service to the community and their disciplines. The successful applicant will be expected to actively mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including underserved and historically underrepresented students, and participate in pipeline programs to help build a diverse and representative student population. The applicant must also participate in research tied to their interests and expertise with faculty in other departments at UAlbany. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, Software Engineering.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to define and carry out internationally recognized research in the candidate's area of specialization within Computer Science
  • Demonstrated teaching experience or strong potential for effectively teaching CS courses and otherwise communicate effectively about CS concepts at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Commitment to student success, diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education
  • PhD in Computer Science or related degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by August 15, 2026.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience or demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Demonstrated potential for research in their field, including obtaining external funding
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Responsibilities

  • Teach classes in computer science and software engineering
  • Research, including supervision of PhD students and postdoctoral scholars
  • Service to the CS department, CNSE, and UAlbany participating in departmental meetings, service activities such as student recruitment and outreach
