Program and Role Summary Wayfinder’s Supervised Visitation program provides parents whose children are in foster care with supervised visitation and coaching services to strengthen parenting skills, enhance parent-child relationships, and sustain family ties. The primary focus on the Visitation Coach Specialist, is to prepare the child and parent for visitation time and facilitates parent and child visitation, coaches the parent during visits to increase parents’ sense of self-worth, empathy, bonding, and attachment to their child, helps parents’ increase the use of alternative parenting strategies to harsh disciplinary practices, increase parents’ knowledge of age-appropriate developmental expectations, and coordinates and facilitates “icebreakers” between parents and resource family caregivers. This is a part-time position budgeted for up to 20 hours/week.

Requirements

  • At a minimum, a high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
  • A valid CA Driver License with a minimum of three(3) years good driving history.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work or a directly related field from an accredited university is preferred.
  • Coursework or work experience with children, family, and child welfare is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate visitation in a variety of settings such as the parent’s home, community and visitation office.
  • Provide ongoing assessment of parent interaction with the child and provide coaching and support to the parent increasing knowledge of positive/safe parenting skills; ability/confidence to provide safe and nurturing environment and improve parent/child attachment.
  • Use Protective Factors and Nurturing Parenting Program (NPP) Framework with families.
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment for visitation to occur and identify safety factors as they are present to intervene and ensure safety of all parties is maintained.
  • Implement trauma-informed and culturally appropriate interventions that increase the ability of parents to interact safely with their children and develop positive and safe parenting skills.
  • May transport clients as needed.
