Job Title Special Education Educational Specialist Annual Salary Starting at $70,464 Work Calendar 9-Month Work Calendar Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Position Type Full-Time, Exempt Location Remote Office Job Definition: Under the general supervision of Distance Learning Solutions, Inc., the employee performs a variety of tasks with major responsibility being that of providing exceptional special educational instruction and related educational services for families and students participating in a virtual schooling program. A portion of this position will also include responsibilities in special education record keeping, scheduling, and data management. Reports to: Program Directors of Distance Learning Solutions, Inc. Job Characteristics: Work collaboratively with school personnel and parents in providing, implementing, designing and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students. The caseload will include students with a variety of disabilities, skill levels, and needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current State of Oregon Teaching License
  • Endorsements as required by the Oregon Department of Education with the appropriate endorsement in areas of assignment. Special Education Educational Specialists must have obtained the TSPC Special Education: Generalist or its equivalent license endorsement
  • One year of successful teaching experience within the subject area OR successful completion of an Oregon instructional internship program
  • Must have a dedicated workspace free from distractions with consistent and reliable high-speed internet access for teleconferencing
  • Operational knowledge of the Internet and Web-related technologies
  • Able to adequately meet legal requirements for performing this position
  • Ability to pass required background checks
  • Obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Candidates must live in the state of Oregon to be considered for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years experience, preferred
  • Demonstrated competency through college preparation, practicum and internship, and/or experience in school-based speech-language services, and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop or write Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students and manage time to complete required special education paperwork within timelines
  • Use a virtual platform to conduct small-group special education classes and to meet with parents for IEPs and consultation meetings.
  • Utilize effective, evidence-based instructional strategies and techniques, and use a variety of curriculum and virtual tools to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Identify individual students' needs by continuously assessing their abilities using teacher-created and curriculum-based assessment tools
  • Utilize behavior management techniques to keep students on track and learning.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on students and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and providers in a student’s IEP team to ensure that students receive appropriate support.
  • Provide consultation to parents around their student’s educational needs
  • Effectively work with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds
  • Maintain daily contact logs for student and family contacts and tracking of data on IEP goal progress
  • Respond to feedback from colleagues and administrators and apply feedback to improve skills and services to students
  • Strive to improve professional competence through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, classes, and other professional development activities
  • Complete daily and monthly reports
  • Answer and respond to emails, texts, and phone calls on a daily basis
  • All other duties as assigned
